Description (ch)
- Facsimile of the Douce 180 manuscript kept at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, accompanied by the French translation
and a study by Jean Grosjean with commentaries by Yves Christie and Montague Rhodes James
- The so-called Apocalypse of Douce is an illuminated manuscript of the Apocalypse of John, dating from the third quarter of the 13th century, kept in the Bodléienne library under the Douce 180 mark. The manuscript contains 97 miniatures.
The manuscript is composed of two parts. The first (f.1-12) contains the incomplete text of the apocalypse in Old French including anonymous commentaries without miniature and a large historiated initial at the beginning.
The second (f.13r.-61r.) contains the same text in Latin, also with commentaries taken from those traditionally attributed to Berengaudus. This last part contains 97 miniatures each occupying half a page.
It remains unfinished, with some of the miniatures still in draft form. The style of the miniatures is directly inspired by that in use at the time of Saint Louis in Paris.
