With the abundance of colors of his august ancestor Rubens, whose sensuality
cheerful made the smallest thing a perpetual feast and enjoyed life as
of an eternal novelty, Camille Lemonnier knew how to paint in prodigal all vitality,
all ardor, all abundance.
At Fresh Heart of the Forest (poetic reverie)
it is a modern transposition of Longus' masterpiece. Daphnis and Chloe
are no longer young Greeks, spelling the love song among the orange trees
and oleanders. They are vagabonds, beggars on the highway.
Daphnis is named Petit Vieux and Chloé Frilette. Where do they come from ? We do not know. Where are they going ?
