  • Very beautiful edition in morocco signed by the famous Maison Goupil

With illustrations by Guillaume Dubufe

(intended for the American market,

the US copyright is affixed on the cover page).

Collection of prayers, .. with texts notably from Father Sanadon

(Nicolas, not his nephew Noël Etienne), Bossuet, Fénelon, Pellisson, Bouhours..

Books of Hours are devotional books for lay people who wish

have a prayer program parallel to that of monastic communities

with prayers related to the different times of the day These books were intended to promote

direct communion with God and the saints, rather than exclusively through the Church and ordained clergy.

Dubufe : Portraitist, genre painter and pastellist, French School.

He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded a medal several times.

He executed the ceiling of the Comédie Française, various decorations at the Hôtel de Ville, at the Sorbonne and at the Elysée.

Between 1829 and 1919, the Goupil house was one of the most prestigious art galleries in the world.

The company's successful business strategy relied primarily on

the development of an international network of branches and counters.

The principle, quite simple but very innovative, consists in buying a work accompanied by its rights

and to reproduce it in different formats and using the most advanced techniques, using

to the best specialists, in order to resell it to an ever wider public of amateurs.

Thus, long before the era of mass reproduction that we know, and while the rights

copyright and artistic property were not legally regulated, many artists saw

thanks to the Goupil house, their popularity exploded, their earnings multiplied, and that the "great"

public was able to access an art hitherto reserved for the walls of museums and salons, or for the wealthiest individuals.
