Description (ch)

  • Beautiful 19th century scholarly work on our heritage treasure

  • Father Jean-Jacques Bourassé is a French priest and archaeologist (1813-1872)

Catholic priest, canon of the Metropolitan Church of Tours, he is professor of theology, liturgy and zoology

at the Minor Seminary of Tours. He was decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1854 for his ecclesiastical functions.

Member of the Entomological Society of France, we owe him many elementary works of natural history, some editions or translations of theological works and also many archaeological publications.

From 1840 to 1873, he became a corresponding member of the CTHS and a correspondent for the Commission de topographie des Gaules from 1865.

Abbé Bourassé was also the 4th president of the Archaeological Society of Touraine from 1853 to 1859.
