• Jules Vallès , the realist writer: "Rebellious pure juice" but not anarchist, fervent of the Socialist but keeping away from the socialist parties, concerned with realism but hostile to naturalism, he remains decidedly "on the margins" of schools and currents of his time.

• Jules Vallès dedicates his chronic and autobiographical novel L'Insurgé to the Parisian people who, at the beginning of 1871, proclaimed the Paris Commune in reaction to a catastrophic political and social situation.

The last novel in the Jacqu es Vingtras trilogy presents itself as the chronicle of these few bloody weeks, experienced from the inside by the author.
