Roland Dorgelès - Le Cabaret de la Belle Femme - With Superb Envoy - War 14
- Beautiful autographed edition from the library of Bourbon journalist and writer Jean-Charles Varennes, former resistance fighter.
- "Infinitely less known to the general public than Les Croix de bois, this book by Dorgelès deserves to be read nonetheless. Its title should not be trusted, as it might suggest a novel of any kind, none the less. is nothing. This is a series of short stories that immerse the reader in the heart of the life of the fighters"
"In reality, this collection brings together parts that have been removed from the manuscript of the Croix de Bois to reduce its volume. We can see Dorgelès' taste for dialogue between his characters, whose outspokenness, slang he gives us strong imagery and accents, as few testimonies have reached. But it is also a cheerful work, with a lively style, walking us between laughter and emotion in a back and forth reminiscent of that of men between the 1st line and Rest"
- Roland Dorgelès, figurehead of the Parisian literary scene and president of the Association of Fighting Writers, fights in Argonne and north of Reims
then moved to the 39th line infantry regiment. He took part in the fighting in the Bois du Luxembourg in February 1915, in the Second Battle of Artois in the cemetery of Neuville-Saint-Vaast in June 1915, among others.
He became a student pilot, was appointed corporal and decorated with the Croix de guerre.
